Coach Information

Coaches,

Thank you for attending the IHSSA Southwest District Large Group Contest in Atlantic on Saturday, February 23, 2019!

Trisha Niceswanger and I are looking forward to meeting you all!

General Information

  • The main office will serve as our headquarters and will be open at 7:00 A.M.
  • Contest centers will begin at 8:00 A.M.
  • Ratings will be posted in the commons on the trophy cases located against the east wall.
  • Please remember your ballots. If you forget, extras will be available in the office for .25 cents.
  • We will not allow you to pick up comment sheets until all ratings are posted. If you wish to leave before your ratings are posted, leave a self addressed, heavily stamped envelope for me to send them in.
  • Coaches should be with students and supervising. Please impress upon your students that this is a contest and to behave respectfully. The gym will serve as one large “homeroom” for all schools. IHSSA rules state that radios and “boom boxes” are to be left at home. Misbehavior will not be tolerated. Please help keep the halls QUIET. We are all working together, not against each other.
  • Have your students to your centers early. It is quite possible that centers may run early. Having students at centers early will help to keep everything moving smoothly.

Schedules

  • The schedule will be emailed to all coaches. It will also be available on our contest website.
  • Please make schedules available to the parents of your students. Full schedules will be available at the door for $1.
  • If you cannot determine your school code, please send me an email at abales@atlanticiaschools.org.
  • If there are problems with the schedule, please email me at abales@atlanticiaschools.org.
  • If you have any drops, please let me know as soon as possible.

Spectator Information

  • There will be a $3 suggested donation for spectators who attend the contest. All the proceeds go to the Atlantic speech team.
  • Inform spectators who may be attending that centers sometimes run early and can’t wait for a family member to arrive before starting.
  • Full schedules will be sold at the entrance for $1.
  • Please remind spectators to avoid wearing gear from your school.

Parking

  • Have bus drivers park in the west parking lot. This goes for other school vehicles, as well. You can also unload in this lot, as well.
  • Visitor parking will be in the east lot. Please avoid using the east lot for visitor parking.

Map of Atlantic High School

  • Maps will not be posted prior to contest day.
  • On the day of contest, maps will be available at the door.
  • We will have volunteers to help direct you around the building.

Food

  • Please do not leave campus for lunch. We depend on the money from concession to support our program.
  • Food and drink (with the exception of water) will not be allowed outside the commons.

Reminders for Parents

  • A donation box will be placed at the main entrance of the high school. The suggested donation is $3 per person. Money goes to support the speech team.
  • No video or audio recording of performances is allowed without written permission of the IHSSA State Office.
  • All cell phones and pagers must be turned off or silenced during performances.
  • Avoid wearing school apparel; judges are not supposed to know school affiliation.
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to performances. Some centers run early and cannot wait for parents to arrive.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, February 23rd!
