Ateneo students actively engage in educational outreach activities

Because social development is a University-wide effort, Ateneo students have been actively engaged in educational outreach activities throughout the years.

The Sector-Based Cluster of the Council of Organizations of the Ateneo Loyola Schools is a group of organizations that focus on advocacy-based work, and a lot of the organizations under this cluster focus on educational outreach programs. One example is Ateneo Gabay, an organization of scholars of the University, who also do area visits to tutor public school students as part of their advocacy efforts. The same goes for Ateneo EDGE, an organization that focuses on social justice through promoting education as a tool for empowerment. Ateneo CODE also aims to help leaders from youth-led organizations, including those in the public schools, to help provide training on organizational development.

Beyond the Council of Organizations, other student groups have led educational outreach activities. Lights For Hope, for instance, is a student organization under the Office of the VP for Social Development. While they initially started out as an annual Christmas event for children of Ateneo’s partner communities, they’ve decided to go beyond this one-day event to make a more long-lasting impact through the creation of values formation classroom modules for public school students.
