Ateneo provides vast resources for study and research work


The Ateneo de Manila University is dedicated to contributing to educating individuals, groups, and communities. The doors of the various institutions inside it are open to visitors who seek information and broaden their knowledge.


The Manila Observatory is one of the institutions open to provide educational resources for those who do not study, consult or work at Ateneo. It contributes research work in the field of atmospheric and earth sciences. The scientific institution’s contributions include continuing scientific research on disaster risk and sustainable development, climate change, environmental observation, and public health and human vulnerability. Likewise, it aims to engage in information, education and communication efforts and build the capability of local communities.


The Rizal Library of Ateneo de Manila University has a set of guidelines for researchers and visitors. It is open to alumni, undergraduate students, high school students and other visiting researchers. All are allowed access to the vast collection of library books and its facilities.


The alumni are charged a fee of Php 100.00 for on-premise use of the books. To borrow a maximum of three books for two weeks, a deposit of Php 1000.00 is required along with the presentation of the valid alumni identification card.


The undergraduates and high school students are welcome to research at the Rizal Library when they present a valid school identification card, a referral letter from the school’s librarian and payment of a Php 50.00 research fee. A maximum of five students per school are allowed in the Rizal Library at one time. Other researchers are also welcome but limited for on-premise use of the library with a Php 100.00 research fee.


The Confucius Institute of Ateneo de Manila was established in 2006 to promote the Chinese language, culture and celebrate Chinese heritage in the country through its vast collection of 8,000 books and audio materials.


Located in two venues: Makati and Quezon City, the Confucius Institute provides not only Chinese classes for Ateneo High School, De LaSalle University, and the College of St. Benilde, but also Corporate Chinese classes which discusses Chinese corporate culture and the business aspect of the Chinese World. It also offers a specialized curriculum for businesses.


In addition, CI offers classes in Chinese painting, calligraphy, taiquan, qigong, the art of knot tying, paper cutting, opera mask painting in the institute and in special events to promote Chinese art, cuisine and culture.


The Confucius Institute serves as the official testing center for HSK Youth Chinese Test and Business Chinese Testing. It also offers scholarships for individuals interested to take part in its student exchange program and summer camps.


Through the three institutions: Manila Observatory, Rizal Library and Confucius Institute, Ateneo serves as a source of well-researched studies and other information which may be used for developing programs beneficial to the community. Opening its doors to welcome researchers other than its own students, faculty and alumni allows the studies to be shared with a greater audience who can learn from them.
