Guidelines for Contractors and Workers of Loyola Heights and Professional Schools Campuses

The responsibility of the Central Facilities Management Office (CFMO) is for the maintenance and care of the environment of the campus. Because of this fact, the CFMO creates guidelines to be followed and executed when it comes to construction and maintenance work, with the principle of sustainability being a major factor in these policies. For the Ateneo campus, sustainability would entail the minimization of waste, biodegradable or not, as well as maintaining the natural ecology of the area. When hiring contractors and third party services, guidelines are also provided by the CFMO. The objective of such guidelines are, again, to make sure that proper practices are enforced while on campus, ensuring that these contractors are aware of the university’s own policies. Included in these guidelines are proper waste management, acquiring and storing of materials, and safety measures, written down with the principle of sustainability in mind.

Giving an example, the guidelines on the maintenance of the job site are particularly for maintaining proper practice during work. For proper waste disposal, materials such as paint and paint thinner cannot be dumped in sewage or garbage of the campus. A practice of bringing containers for the washing must be maintained, for proper disposal afterwards. Construction debris and waste must also be appropriately disposed of, while some demolished structures, like windows, metal handles, reinforced bars, and more are kept. These guidelines follow principles of sustainability, from recycling to proper waste management, as to guide everyone in the community, including third-party services, towards sustainable practices.

The Ateneo de Manila University takes its approach to sustainability seriously, as it is one of the principles that guide the school. The policies of CFMO reflect these principles in turn. In working with contractors and third-party services, CFMO ensures, through these guidelines, that these principles guide the work and practices of those on campus grounds.
