Overview

In recent years, local and international programming competitions such as the ACM International Collegiate Programming Competition (ACM-ICPC) for college students and the National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) and International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) for high school students have been gaining more and more attention. These events are opportunities for students to demonstrate excellence in programming and problem solving, as well as venues to benchmark against other schools, possibly from other countries. Students and coaches alike are therefore challenged to prepare well for these contests.

As part of our efforts to increase our country’s competitiveness in the fields of information technology (IT) and computer science (CS), the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Department of Information Systems and Computer Science (DISCS) cordially invites your teachers and students to apply for inclusion in the Ateneo Summer Programming Camp (ASPC). The ASPC is a six-day competitive programming training seminar for high school and college students and teachers. Joint participation – one or more teachers and one or more teams of students per school – is encouraged.

This year, we are offering two separate tracks of ASPC.

ASPC-A

Open to all incoming high school students from Grade 10 to Grade 12 for school year 2019-2020, as well as Grade 12 students who are graduating in school year 2018-2019, it is designed for students who have absolutely no background in programming.

  • Introduction to Python, Conditionals
  • Iteration
  • Functions and Classes, Strings
  • Math Review, Algorithm Analysis
  • Recursion, Sorting
  • Complete Search
  • Final Contest

ASPC-B

Open to all high school students, college students, and teachers who already have some programming experience, but who have little to no experience in standard data structures, algorithms, and competitive programming.

  • Introduction to C++, Algorithm Analysis
  • Math for Computing: Recurrences, Sums, Combinatorics
  • Basic Number Theory and Number Theoretic Algorithms
  • Linear Data Structures, Amortized Analysis
  • Recursion, Recursive Backtracking
  • Binary Representation of Integers, Bitwise Operations, Bitmasking
  • Divide-and-Conquer
  • Trees, Binary Heaps, Binary Search Trees
  • Greedy Algorithms
  • Basic Graph Theory and Graph Algorithms
  • Dynamic Programming
  • Final Contest and Open Forum

The camp will be held at Faura Hall, Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights, Quezon City.

Room Assignments

  • ASPC-A-1: F-227
  • ASPC-A-2: F-228
  • ASPC-B: F-204

Application Process

All interested applicants are required to apply online at http://bit.ly/aspc2019app by Friday, 19 April 2019, 5:00 PM. The application process for ASPC-B will include a test of programming aptitude. Slots for ASPC-A will be awarded on a first come, first served basis; while slots for ASPC-B will be awarded on a competitive basis. An applicant's preferred track will be taken into consideration, but we may award them a slot for a different track based on the results of their placement test. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by Wednesday, 24 April 2019.

Once a slot is awarded to an applicant, we will send the applicant instructions on how to pay the nonrefundable ASPC registration fee of Php 1,500. All fees must be received by Friday, 3 May 2019. Only accepted applicants will be charged the registration fee.

We invite students from Mindanao to the 2019 Mindanao Programming Summer Camp (MPSC), hosted by the Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU).

DISCS, through the ADMU Programming Varsity (ProgVar), is honored to collaborate with ADDU MPSC in making this programming camp possible. It is modeled after ADMU's ASPC (Ateneo Summer Programming Camp).
