With your company or legal team, determine what type of verification is needed:
Degree Area Verification: confirmation letter by the program chair, printed on ASU department letterhead, confirming the area (Industrial Engineering) as part of that degree program, since those do not appear on the diploma.
Please follow Steps 2, 4, and 5 below to request this letter.
Skill Verification by Course: confirmation letter by the program chair printed on ASU department letterhead confirming the skill(s) requested had been learned in the relevant course(s)
Please follow ALL steps below (2-5) to request this letter.
Through this procedure, we can only verify SCAI courses with these prefixes: CSE/CEN/DSE/SER/IEE.
In order to receive verification for any EEE coursework, you must email the ECEE Business Operations Manager with your transcript and template with skills matched to courses.
Other Verification options:
Enrollment Verification: confirmation from the University of the dates you were enrolled and that you received your degree.
This can be requested from the University Registrar: https://students.asu.edu/forms/enrollment-verification
Please read the instructions on the site on how to submit it. Do not send it to our DropBox as it will not be processed by our office.
Enrollment dates, dates of attendance, and degree conferral dates cannot appear on a Skill Verification letter.
Employment Verification: confirmation from the university that you were employed as a Graduate TA/RA.
This can be requested from the ASU HR: https://www.asu.edu/hr/forms/employment_verification.pdf
Please read the instructions on the form on how to submit it. Do not send it to our DropBox as it will not be processed by our office.
Confirmation of TA/RA or other student employment cannot appear on a Skill Verification letter.
Transcripts: your ASU transcripts can be obtained that show all courses taken, grades received, degree issued, and the date your degree was conferred.
Both types of transcript can be requested from MyASU. At the bottom of the My Classes box, select "Transcripts & Test Scores".
An Official Transcript (secured) can be requested via the Registrar's office. Official transcripts cost $15.00 per copy requested.
An Unofficial Transcript can be saved directly from your MyASU. Select Unofficial Transcript in the dropdown on the launched report page, then View Report.
You do not need to continue through the next steps if this is the only verification you need.
If you are uncertain what is needed, we recommend reviewing the FAQ below, or discussing the options with your legal team or company.
Obtain an unofficial copy of your transcript.
Use the provided template below containing the skill(s) you need verified.
Formatting of the letters must match our sample template (below) to ensure all necessary information is provided. All letters will only be issued in the approved template format demonstrated below.
NOTE: You must be signed into your ASU gmail/Google account to access the below Templates.
Requested skills must be listed by course in accordance to Step 3.
Dates of attendance are not verified through skills letters. This can be verified by the registrar by an Enrollment Verification Request (See Step 1) or for IE/CEN area concentration letters only.
Area concentration verifications cannot be combined with skills requests. If you need both, please submit each template. The letters will be verified and issued separately.
All skills requested must be matched to the course that the skill was learned in.
You can review the pre-approved list of skills by course.
We can only approve skills listed on the pre-approved list (link is provided above). If the skill you are requesting is not listed as pre-approved, provide a course syllabus highlighting the requested skill(s).
If the skill you are requesting is not found on the pre-approved list OR on the syllabus you are providing, it will be denied. No exceptions.
You may request a maximum of 2 pre-approved skills PER COURSE and up to 10 skills TOTAL for your skills verification letter.
Skills are only approved for grades of "B" or better. Lower Grades will be denied.
Skills with a "Y" grade earned in the course will not be verified.
Any requests needed that are not on the pre-approved list will require you to submit a syllabus with the skills highlighted.
Make sure to check the "Disapproved skills" tab before requesting skills from any course.
This list is subject to regular review by the program chairs and faculty. Skills may be added, edited, or removed according to instructor approval and changes in course content.
You must be logged into your ASU student Gmail in browser to view this document. Requests for access from non-ASU emails will not be granted.
Please regularly check your email for communications from the advising team if additional materials or clarification are required.
All processing will be done by the advising office. Students should not reach out to instructors directly.

Please watch for emails from SCAI.SkillsRequest@asu.edu after submitting your request. Check your spam/junk folders. If there are any questions when reviewing your skills or adjustments based on faculty feedback on a request, this is how you will be contacted.
If any skills are denied during the verification process, they will not be included in the final letter.
Decisions regarding whether a skill is approved for a course or not is FINAL.
We can only verify SCAI courses, including courses with these prefixes: CSE/CEN/SER/IEE.
In order to receive verification for any EEE coursework, you must email the ECEE Business Operations Manager with your transcript and template with skills matched to courses.
RAS courses may need to be verified by the department offering the course, since Robotics & Autonomous Systems is an interdisciplinary degree across Fulton Schools of Engineering.
If more than 3 weeks have passed since you submitted your documents, you may contact us once to request a status update.
Any correspondence regarding your request should be sent to SCAI.SkillsRequest@asu.edu, not your academic advisor or faculty.
Please provide a copy of the syllabus highlighting the skills requested. If the skills are not explicitly stated within the syllabus, it will be denied.
Skill Verification Letters are processed through SCAI Advising Office. Please DO NOT reach out directly to faculty, even if you are seeking verification for skills from only one course or one instructor. Forwarded approvals from the student would not be accepted.
Denied skills are final. Attempting to reach out to an instructor after a skill has been denied will not result in an approval or a new letter.
The templates SCAI uses are supported by the program chairs and faculty. We will only issue letters in that format. If you need other information verified, see if you can verify it by other means (transcript, enrollment verification, etc.)
SCAI does not verify skills used during CPT or OPT. Your employer from that time may be able to assist with verification.
This can be requested from the ASU HR: https://www.asu.edu/hr/forms/employment_verification.pdf
SCAI Graduate Advising receives a high volume of requests for these letters. Requests are handled as quickly as possible, but processing time is heavily dependent on faculty response time, and faculty have other duties to attend to as well. The best thing you can do to facilitate timely processing of your letter is to follow all the steps outlined in the instructions and to ensure that the skills in your template are well written and concise.
A wet signature is not necessary. The final document bears all the relevant information and its legitimacy is assured through its secure format prohibiting edits. Rest assured that this electronic format holds the same legal validity as a document with a wet signature. It has been generated through secure and authorized channels, guaranteeing its authenticity.
