Students interested in changing their major to one of the majors within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering must meet the admission requirements. Note that the GPA requirement for change of major is calculated using all coursework (ASU + transfer GPA). A useful tool to view the combined ASU+transfer GPA and the courses required to be completed in order to meet the secondary criteria requirements is the FSE Secondary Review Audit in DARS.

How long will it take to change my Major?
Once you submit a Major Change Inquiry you will receive a response from a SCAI advisor within 1-2 business days via email to your @asu.edu email account. If you satisfy the admission requirements necessary to change your major you can reply with confirmation to process the major change. It will then take 1-3 business days for your major to officially be changed. Once your major change is complete your new major will be reflected in the 'My Programs' section of your MyASU page.
Do I have to meet with an academic advisor to change my major?
No. After you submit a Major Change Inquiry you will receive a response from an academic advisor that will include a decision regarding your admissibility and a recommended list of courses to take in the next semester for your new major. If the email includes enough information for you to update your schedule without meeting with an advisor you may reply to the response with permission to change your major.
If, however, you still have questions you would like answered regarding changing your major, you may schedule an appointment to meet with a SCAI advisor. Information on how to schedule an appointment with an advisor is also included in the advisor response to your change of major inquiry.
What is the difference between Computer Science (Software Engineering) and Software Engineering?
The Computer Science (Software Engineering) program is a focused concentration of the Computer Science BS degree program and is only available on the Tempe campus. More information on this program can be found via the ASU Program Search.
The Software Engineering program is a separate degree program offered on the Polytechnic campus and ASU Online. ASU Online students who are interested in a "computer science" degree should consider the Software Engineering program. More information on this program is available in STEP 1 above or via the ASU Program Search.
I don't currently meet the requirements to change my major. Can I change my major later?
Once you satisfy the admission requirements to change your major you can submit a new Major Change Inquiry to begin the review process.
You can use the Flowchart, located on the Curriculum page from Step 1, for your major of interest to identify lower-division coursework you can take while you work to satisfy the admission requirements.
It is important to note that some courses require students to be a specific major in order to enroll into them. You will not be able to take these classes before you satisfy the admission requirements to change your major. Information on course enrollment prerequisites and requirements can be found in the class search and the ASU Course Catalog
