We had a pretty quick and simple shoot, edit, and delivery for the recent presentation with President's Professor, Mike Angilletta for his contribution to the 2021 online virtual ASU REMOTE conference. The finished results, as well as the whole production process and workflow, are encouraging and I can help to inform some of "new" modes of production in our non-green screen studio.
The basic workflow (aside from the post production editing of slide content) is not too far outside of much of our current standard green screen studio work. This was a single camera presentation with slides. Yet, the finished results certainly have a different look achieved by a few minor adjustments to workflow and approach. No green screen, a bit more editing.
Mike was initially a bit hesitant to adopt this non-green screen production style, as he has mostly only worked in our standard studios in the past. However, after seeing the finished results his feedback was very positive, “Wowsa! ...I am VERY pleased with the outcome and will consider using this format more often in the future. Thanks for recommending the approach!”
This production involved a location shoot on a Monday afternoon with editing and delivery the next morning. The quick turn-around mandated a fairly simple approach, again not drastically different from our standard studio work. I am encouraged that we can also implement a ‘lite’ version of this approach in our studios that would be even more efficient by removing the editing work entirely, and instead utilize the ATEM Mini with a couple of cameras and a slide presentation computers mixed in a "live-to-tape" production workflow.
This would not necessarily be a replacement for our green screen bread-and-butter work, but as an additional offering for some of the more premium presentation and instruction productions that would benefit from the extra treatment.
