Original planned "book light" setup
Ara Austin, Chemistry
The original plan for this shoot was to experiment with the "book light" technique by bouncing a bright key off of a large reflector and through a large scrim. However the logistics once we arrived on location in Hayden Library did not afford us the opportunity to work too far outside the box. As such we went with a fairly standard Three-point setup (large key, large reflector, hair light), supplemented with a bright accent light shooting through one window in an adjacent room to function as a practical. Additionally, given that the talent was positioned directly under a fluorescent fixture that we were not able to turn off, we mounted a large black flag on a two light stands to block that light out which would have cast a green tint and also introduced unappealing shadows from overhead.
