Converting the 4.6k digital cinema camera used on location to USB for Zoom interface
Talent directly addressing the digital cinema camera during recording & Zoom interface
Location equipment, digital cinema to webcam
To help facilitate our work with the remote producer in Montana for the our ASU Study Hall YouTube series we interfaced the Blackmagic Ursa Mini 4.6k into a Zoom call using a daisy-chain of converters. The recipe was super simple:
SDI out of the Ursa
SDI converted to HDMI
HDMI converted to USB becomes a very nice “webcam” for Zoom.
It worked very well. Additionally, we added an audio mixer with USB output. This mixer was intended to provide digital USB microphone program source audio to the Zoom conference call, as well as standard analog to an outboard Zoom solid-state audio recorder (ironic that two different pieces of the equipment puzzle have the same name!). In the end, the USB mixer proved unnecessary, as the converted signal from the Ursa contained the needed audio.
This setup provided high quality recording on our end and also offers the remote producer a exact view of the camera shot and program audio. It worked seamlessly.
