A little bit about Mike: I'm originally from Cleveland, Ohio. Although, I've lived in California since I graduated college. I currently live Southern California with my wife, son, and three dogs. I also have a daughter who currently attends the University of Arizona. I've been in residential mortgage lending for the past 20 years, with the past 10 being in executive management roles. I had only planned on spending 1-2 years in the industry, and then going back and getting my MBA. However, I fell in love with the work and decided to stay. However, I always had the goal of getting an advanced degree. At 42, I figured it was now or never, and enrolled in the MALM program.
Start of Program: Summer 2019
What is your leadership/management style? I believe in and focus on leading with integrity. There are positive and negative implications of any decision that is made. By being honest and forthright, I feel that you create trust and an effective working environment that enables people to make the best decisions. I also have an open door, casual leadership style, and attempt to put my employees and the company's interests above my own. I also don't mind rolling up my sleeves to get the job done.
What do you think you need to improve on? Working collaborative in a distance setting. I'm accustomed to working face to face or via email. Skype, What's App, Google Hangouts, etc. are all new to me. I've also worked primarily in work environments that are individualistic. A main driver in me selecting Thunderbird was the need to force myself to work in non-hierarchal groups and interact with people in mediums that I'm not experienced in.
Aspirations and goals: To keep learning and continually improving.
