A little bit about Jake:
My name is Jacob “Jake” Teskey and I am an Arizona native who currently manages a national nonprofit leadership development program. My work background is in programs development, implementation and management, particularly in the nonprofit and healthcare sectors. My academic background is in interdisciplinary studies with focus on global health, nutrition and sustainability.
Fun fact(s): I am a two-time alumnus of the program I now manage. I also play competitive sand volleyball and I am a father to an adorable Airedale Terrier mix, Hurley.
Start of Program: Summer 2019
What is your leadership/management style? My leadership/management styles places emphasis on Assest-Based Community Development (ABCD); leveraging the strengths and talents of team members accordingly to maximize the goals and objectives of the organization, team members and the community. The foundational characteristics that steer my leadership include integrity, equity, understanding and innovation.
What do you think you need to improve on? Something that requires consistent management and adaptability is my time management. While I complete what is required on time, there is room for me to better structure my days so that I can reach task completion earlier and more efficiently.
Aspirations and goals: My immediate aspirations and goals include taking best advantage of the networking opportunities through Thunderbird and increasing my knowledge and skillset through the MALM program and applying them to my current position. After school I would like to transition out of the nonprofit/higher education sector and into a role that develops innovative, sustainable strategies that address increasing global concerns.
