The US Air Force Academy is offering 25-30 allocations for AFROTC cadets to participate in their Special Warfare Orientation Course (SWOC) ODT.
SWOC develops cadets to increase interest and provide foundational skills for selection and training pipeline preparation. Participants will receive introductory training on three main mission sets - Global Access (seizing and controlling airfields), Precision Strike (guiding deadly airstrikes), and Personnel Recovery (rescuing friendly personnel in harm's way). This program is designed to assist in helping a cadet make an informed choice.
The cadet must meet the following requirements to be eligible:
NEW: As of AY24-25, priority are AS200 cadets who have completed Field Training prior to attending SWOC. Second priority candidate would be AS200s assigned to a later MAX, but this is not the preference. Field Training takes priority; every effort has been made at AFROTC/DO but deconfliction is not guaranteed.
AS200 Cadets enrolled in SWOC Period 1 (7-21June) make every effort to attend MAX25-01 (19May – 08June)
AS200 cadets enrolled in SWOC Period 2 (27June – 12Jul) make every effort to attend either MAX25-01 or MAX25-02 (02-22Jun)
NEW: As of AY24-25, Cadets must be ordered to active duty for training.
Cadet must be contracted IOT be ordered to active duty for training.
Contracted cadets on active-duty orders are eligible to receive TriCare medical benefit.
Complete all events in the Air Force Special Warfare Initial Fitness Test (AFSPECWAR IFT, dated 10 Jan 23) following instructions on page 2 & 3 of Attachment 3 – SWOC Application, Part 2, and placing scores on page 2.
A passing score is not required but will increase chances of selection. All events must be completed.
These six (6) events include:
(1) Pull-ups / (2) Sit-ups / (3) Push-ups / (4) 1.5 mile run (5) 2x 25m underwater swim / (6) 500m surface swim (no fins)
NOTE: IFT must be administered by an AFROTC Detachment Commander, their designee or a SW operator and the administrator must be familiar with IFT procedures. Refer to the following website for specific administration: http://www.youtube.com/watchv=0zdKD0VMKWg&feature=plcp&context=C3f31946UDOEgsToPDskJY7F3h01Zie0ZF9Il5EPl1
Be able to fully participate in 2 weeks of extremely physically challenging events and not have any known disqualifying medical conditions.
Cadets must have an approved sports physical. Cadets are not required to complete the Special Warfare Airmen (SWA) exam to attend the SWOC ODT. SW Officer Candidates are required to complete a SWA physical exam prior to beginning their training pipeline post-commissioning. Those cadets with known medical conditions that would prevent them from completing a SWA exam should not apply.
