Beech class have a been recreating Johannes Itten’s ‘abstract figures’ in art. They have been using watercolour for the first time and have all really enjoyed it! They have turned out beautifully.
In maths, Y1 have been learning how to measure using a ruler. They chose some objects and measured them in centimetres. They also discussed why using a ruler is an accurate way to measure objects
Hazel class have been creating landscapes inspried by their artist for this term: Mackenzie Thorpe. They have worked hard at mastering the skills for oil pastel and built up their skills over time.
We kicked off World Book Day with our annual Reading Breakfast, where parents and children from every year group could come into school, grab a delicious breakfast and settle down with a book to start the morning!
On Thursday 29th February, we had a visit from the award-winning book fair 'Boggledybook'. Each year, the book fair visits Aston Lodge, in preparation for World Book Day! Each child received a free book and had the opportunity to purchase books of their choice!
Some of our students had the opportunity to represent Aston Lodge this week at a Boccia tournament hosted by Rotherham School Games. They placed 2nd out of many schools attending and showed such resilience and teamwork skills.
This term, the children in Hazel and Holly class had an exciting opportunity to work with students from Sheffield University and learn about the exciting game of ‘Korfball’, which is popular in the Netherlands. All the children had so much fun! Well done!
Our Y5 and Y6 classes have come to the end of their six-week-long programme with Rotherham Titans Rugby. They had such a great experience: learning new rugby skills; building their knowledge of nutrition and diet; and even making their own healthy smoothies!
As well as providing great opportunities for the pupils, we have recently hosted a dance CPD event, for teaching staff across the area. Our very own Miss O'Brien loved the workshop and cannot wait to share what she has learnt with all the classes here at Aston Lodge!
The children at Aston Lodge have loved dressing up to raise money for #RedNoseDay today. We have raised an amazing £110!!

Aston Lodge were awarded the overall winners of the TEKK Challenge 2024!
Our group of five finalists delivered an amazing presentation and were so confident talking about the journey of their project. What an experience for our students in Y6.
Over the past two terms, we have loved making links with Carl Alford, from HSBC Sheffield, to promote a love of STEM and DT in our primary school.
Miss Jenkinson popped into Y5 this term, to teach them all about equivalent fractions and decimals. Holly Class loved exploring their new topic with the maths equipment; they were even more excited that they could write their answer on the table!
Our smallest children in school have been enjoying their new topic 'Farm Animals' and have loved creating their own little chicks.
FS2 have been working incredibly hard with their literacy work on “Goldilocks and the Three Bears”. They have shown great determination and pride with both their writing and their craft activities and we are so unbelievably proud of them all.

Our transition days for 2024 are Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th July. For these two days, pupils will meet their new class teachers and supporting adults, completing a range of fun activities.
If your child is transitioning into Y6, in the next academic year, their transition period will be slightly longer - starting from Monday 10th June - every morning.
As the warm weather is approaching (hopefully!), please could we remind you that pupils need to be bringing the following items to school, labelled, in their bags:
Sun cream
Sun hat
Water Bottle
Our Y4's, 5's and 6's have all been making very good use of our intervention websites. Y4 have been using TTRockstars to practice their times tables and increase their arithmetic fluency. Y5 have been using IXL to practice key skills in preparation for their final year and Y6 have been using IXL and Third Space Learning to boost their maths scores in their next assessments!
