KS2 are really enjoying their music lessons with Mrs Gibbons this term. They have been learning how to play the ukulele; they have even learnt a few tunes after some practice with finding each note!
The children in FS1 have been looking at the story The Three Little Pigs. The children have worked really hard looking at the story and taking part in different activities. They especially enjoyed making their own pig sugar cookies! Yum!
As part of their 'All Around the World' topic, FS2 visited The Deep where the pupils took part in a workshop all about the Antarctic. They then visited the aquarium and saw all sorts of sea animals - as well as penguins.
Year 3/4 - National Space Centre: Tuesday 5th March
Year 2/3 - History Van: Monday 26th February
We are currently planning our Easter Parent Workshops for every year group - as well as an Easter Fair! Keep your eyes peeled!
As part of PSHE, and Mental Health week, we celebrated this years theme of 'Our Voice Matters'. Pupils from all year groups participated in activities, to spread kindness all around our school. They completed some compliment cards, discussed what they were proud of and enjoyed being paired with other year groups during our activity afternoon. We heard so many nice things being said to one another; the pupils loved having guidance and support from people in other classes.
In Y2/3, we have been busy planting sunflower seeds to see how they will grow. In groups, we have four plants. One plant will be put in the dark, one will go into the cold and one will not be watered. One lucky plant will receive everything it needs to grow. We can't wait to monitor their growth over the next couple of weeks.
In art this term, the pupils in Y1 have been learning about ceramics. We have been super impressed with the children's clay work! The children have really taken their time and we cannot wait to show you their final pieces when they are dry.
As part of their learning surround the Miners' Strike, Y6 visited the Coal Mining Museum this week. Although the snow cut it short, they all said that the pit tour was amazing and they loved the hands-on expirience of being a miner for a day!
We welcome you to our Open Day. A great way to meet staff and see our foundation unit!

The Aston Lodge Eco Committee are supporting the WPT green initiative. At our most recent meeting, we discussed some ways we could make the school greener. The Eco Committee wanted to focus on turning off light switches in classrooms and corridors that were currently not being used and in assembly this week want to make all classes aware of the impact this can have upon the environment.
As part of their history topic on the Vikings, Hazel class enjoyed a fascinating trip to York and the Yorvik Viking Centre. The children experienced what life was like for the Vikings. They also learnt about the job of an archaeologist and they even got to do their own digging.
As part of their last Geography lesson of the term, Beech class investigated litter in our local area and school grounds. We found a lot of litter around our school. We brought it back into the classroom and sorted it out into different categories before using this to make a bar chart.
Our Y4's, 5's and 6's have all been making very good use of our intervention websites. Y4 have been using TTRockstars to practice their times tables and increase their arithmetic fluency. Y5 have been using IXL to practice key skills in preparation for their final year and Y6 have been using IXL and Third Space Learning to boost their maths scores in their next assessments!
