Course description: Learn to play the guitar

    This course is designed for the beginning guitar student. The skills learned in this course are intended to set the foundation for the enjoyment of playing the guitar for a lifetime. Students will also develop the basic skills needed to pursue more advanced study. Students will learn the parts of the guitar, correct hand placement, and how to tune the guitar correctly with or without a tuner. Students will also learn standard musical notation, tabs, blues patterns and scales, and how to read and play melodies and chords through exercises and song study. Students are encouraged to have their own guitar, but it is not required. 

Course description: Guitar performance independent study

    This course is for students that have demonstrated a strong motivation and a desire to continue with guitar performance. Students further develop their guitar playing skills and continue increasing their level of musicianship. Students may study electric and/or acoustic guitar. (Students would need to provide their own electric guitar and portable amp with headphone output.) Students will work in a shared classroom space and practice rooms, and are expected to work independently with guidance from the instructor. Availability is limited to existing class size.

Prerequisites: Students must have earned a B + (87-89) or better in Learn To Play The Guitar or demonstrate appropriate skill level to the instructor.
