Do you want to learn the art of being a DJ? Learn how to mix, scratch, loop, cue, and create sets to keep the party going in this hands-on course. Students will develop basic skills in using the turntable as an instrument for both live expression and performance and as a production tool. Traktor Kontrol S4 DJ MIDI controllers, Traktor Pro software, Mac computers, and DAWs including Garageband and FL Studio Producer Edition will be utilized in this course. Hands-on exercises to create amazing mixes and beats will be emphasized. The course traces the historical development of the turntable from its origins in Jamaican music through its importance as a major expression of hip-hop culture, and to the turntable's prominence in contemporary music. No prior experience required.
This course is for students that have demonstrated a strong motivation and a desire to continue with DJ Skills and Music Production. Students further develop their musical performance and production skills, and continue increasing their level of musicianship. Students will work in a shared classroom space and practice rooms, and are expected to work independently with guidance from the instructor. Availability is limited to existing class size.
