The Mathematical Journey for ASL students from K1 through Grade 4 is guided by teachers and focused on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for math. Teachers honor curiosity, using exploration and investigations to build mathematical knowledge and intellectual autonomy. The learning process begins with partial knowledge and conjecture and, with persistent effort from the students and teachers, ends with increased understanding, fluency and connected knowledge.
In May we celebrate the math that is found is PUZZLES!
Consider how math was used when the creator invented this puzzle.

Come to the Math Corner to color a Mondrian. Submit to the Math Corner to have yours put on display!
Pick a Game Board (6x6, 10x10, 15 x 15, 24x24):
Create rectangles/squares that cover the entire grid.
Alternate coloring your grid using yellow, blue, red, and white. Ensure that no two adjacent sections share the same color.
Goal: Subtract the largest - smallest region to find your score. Lowest score wins!
Math Mystery: What is the SMALLEST score for each sized Game Board?
Score = 12-4 = 8
There are real life mysteries in the field of mathematics and MathScott needs our help!
Work with your children at home to provide solutions to these conjectures. Some have solutions, some are partially proven, and some are still true mysteries.
Hints will be provided in the Math Corner regularly so have your child keep their eye out!
