This site is dedicated to chronicling my students challenge based learning experiences this semester.

The Project: Design Overview Document - this document provides an overview of the project, learning outcomes, and other pertinent details.
The students: this project is being completed with 24 Honors English IV students in a rural county in North Carolina.
We are currently on a hybrid schedule due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We meet in person for 90 minutes, twice a week. Then, students complete two days worth or remote learning each week as well. WIN (What I Need) Wednesdays are reserved for small group learning, remediation, club meetings, etc.
We will begin this project at the end of the first nine weeks, so these students will be halfway through the fall semester of their senior year. Most of these students are in the midst of college application season and are beginning to apply for scholarships. Some of signing up for the military, and some are considering what jobs to seek after graduation. They are all beginning to see the reality of adulthood looming in the offing.
The Driving Question: I know that right now my seniors have a lot of questions and fear as they move forward with the next steps of their lives, the transition away from high school and into adulthood, and a lot of these fears are compounded by the current uncertainty added by the Covid-19 pandemic. I want them to ask themselves the following question: What obstacles will I face and need to overcome in order to achieve my specific goal or goals? In order to ask this question, they need to identify specific goals and specific obstacles to those goals so that they can come up with solutions. I hope that students will find that they are not alone in their fears and aspirations.
