Rifle Team

The Bettye Davis East Anchorage High School Thunderbird Battalion Rifle Team represents the peak of focus, poise, and technical marksmanship within the school’s JROTC program. Affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), the team trains cadets in Olympic-style three-position air rifle shooting—prone, standing, and kneeling—where success relies entirely on breath control, steady technique, and extreme mental discipline rather than raw athletic strength.

Joining the Thunderbird Rifle Team gives you the unique opportunity to master a calm, razor-sharp focus while competing in regional and national postal matches, including local competitions hosted right at East Anchorage. It provides a safe, highly structured environment to develop certified firearm safety, consistent goal-setting, and emotional composure under competitive stress—skills that translate directly into higher academic test performance, scholarship opportunities, and NCAA or varsity marksmanship paths. If you want a sport where composure beats athletic size and precision rewards patience, the Rifle Team offers the ideal place to hone your mind and earn your place among the battalion’s top marksmen.
