Baxter Music

Dear Parents,

Welcome to a musical year! I look forward to working with all of your students this year and helping them become mini musicians…

There is a lot going on throughout this year and wanted to at least give you some dates to be aware of because I know how busy we all get. I will send letters throughout the year with more detail on expectations and happenings for each activity. Again I apologize for the long letter.

Recorder:

3rd and 4th grade will be playing recorder this year. I make one large purchase to help save on shipping. There is a scholarship fund for those who may not be able to purchase one and if you’ve already purchased one you do not need to again.

Ukulele:

5th-6th grade will be learning ukulele as well. I have a class set that they may use. I’ve had families in the past ask about purchasing one. You can but; YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO! You’re student will get the chance to play in class. If you are interested the ones I use are Mahalo Soprano Ukuleles from Amazon. They are relatively cheap. ($30-$60) Ukuleles can get far more expensive it just depends on what you’re looking for.

Thank you for your support,

Kelly Frost

Grading Procedure:

Grades in music are based on participation. I will track skills progress through out the school year however, I do not base their academic grade on their skills. As long as they are following directions and trying the various activities they will do well. There will have projects where they are required to analyze, write, create, and demonstrate. My expectations will be clearly posted in the assignment. IF a student refuses to do the work or has not completed the assignment, it will be an automatic 0 until turned in.
