Students' Devices

To enrich Digital Literacy in our school, we have adopted a 1-to-1 device program. All students from Grades 1 to 12 must have a device that meets the school's minimum requirements.
Device Types:
Grades 1 to 4: Students must have an iPad.
Grade 5: Students have the choice to use an iPad (with keyboard attachment), or a Macbook (some students in Grade 4 also favour getting a Macbook).
Grades 6 to 12: Macbook that meets the minimum requirements of the IT department.
Every year, the IT department makes sure to update the Device Requirements Letter sent to parents joining ASB. This letter is also available on our school's website. Click Here for a copy of the letter.
Parents are encouraged to purchase devices from the school's official partner iWorld for the following reasons:
Official Apple Products: iWorld, as a premium reseller, provides only genuine Apple devices and accessories, ensuring top quality and reliability.
Comprehensive Support: Purchasing from iWorld guarantees direct access to Apple-certified support, including repairs and troubleshooting, ensuring quicker solutions for any issues. Furthermore, students who require support can drop their devices off to the school's
Apple Care Availability: Devices bought through iWorld include the option to purchase Apple Care, providing extended warranty and protection for your child's device.
Seamless Integration with School Systems: Devices from iWorld are guaranteed to be compatible with the school's Mobile Device Management system, ensuring smooth updates, security measures, and better integration for learning purposes.
Peace of Mind: With an official purchase, you avoid the risks associated with third-party sellers, such as counterfeit products, warranty issues, or lack of customer support.

That being said, we do not limit parents’ options if they choose not to purchase from iWorld. Parents are free to buy from any vendor that meets their price and needs. However, should the device require support or repairs, parents will be responsible for taking it to the place of purchase for services, as support from iWorld would not automatically apply. Our partnership with iWorld is designed to offer convenience and consistent service for families, particularly in terms of technical support and repairs. However, parents are free to compare prices and find the best option for their family, as long as the device meets our specifications.
All students must have the Mobile Device Management (MDM) on their devices for them to be able to use them in school for educational purposes.
Security: MDM helps protect student devices from malware and unauthorized access by enforcing security policies.
Standardization: It ensures that all devices are set up consistently with the required apps and settings, facilitating smoother classroom experiences.
Remote Support: IT can provide remote assistance to resolve technical issues quickly, minimizing downtime and disruptions to learning.
Content Filtering: MDM can enforce internet filtering policies to ensure students access appropriate content.
Compliance: It helps ensure that devices comply with educational regulations and standards.
For new students who are purchasing new devices:
If the device is purchased from iWorld, it will be included in the purchase.
If the device is purchased from a different vendor, or the student will be using a device they already have, parents must purchase the MDM separately from the iWorld website: https://iworld.bh/product/mdm-license-asb/
For students who already had a device at ASB:
If the student is changing devices, we will transfer the existing MDM to the new device. No need to purchase an additional one.
If the student intentionally removed his/her MDM from the school's device, but they intend to use it again at ASB, a fee of BD 20 + License fee will be applicable for the reinstallation of the license. The fee could increase by the number of times the student removes the MDM.
No. Students are not allowed to remove the MDM from their devices during their enrollment at ASB. However, the IT department can make some exceptions provided that students follow the approval procedure.
Reinstallation of the MDM comes with a fee according to the following:
Removal of MDM was approved: Reinstallation of MDM will cost BD 20 paid before the reinstallation process.
Removal of MDM was not approved and done by student/external party: Reinstallation of MDM will cost BD20 + the cost of the license, paid before the reinstallation process.
Apple has introduced a new update that adds an "Unenroll" button in MacBook settings, allowing students to remove their device from the school's Mobile Device Management (MDM). The button is included in the "Device Management" settings as shown in the below image.
Whether done accidentally or intentionally, clicking this button will result in losing access to the school's Wi-Fi. In such cases, a fee of BD 20 will be charged for the reinstallation of the MDM.
In all cases, installing or reinstalling the MDM will completely erase the device.
Any special cases or clarification is to be sent to itsupport@asb.bh.
