FAQs about AI
“At American School of Bahrain, our mission is to provide a challenging American and international education that inspires students to pursue their passions, achieve their goals and become responsible global citizens”.
Great learning at our school means helping students grow and succeed academically with the support of their teachers. It takes place in a happy environment where students feel safe to explore their interests and try new things. It encourages creativity, curiosity, and the use of new ideas and technologies. Great learning also means understanding and respecting different cultures, preparing students to succeed in a global world. It includes a balance of academics, arts, sports, and other activities to help students become well-rounded individuals. Finally, it fosters leadership skills, encouraging students to take on roles that help their community.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and solutions are now everywhere and quickly evolving. These tools can affect us without us even knowing. At ASB, we believe it is very important to use AI in ways that:
Enhance great learning experiences
Honor every person’s inherent dignity
Promote equity
Protect privacy
By aligning with our mission and pillars to the below policies, we can ensure that AI supports our vibrant learning community and contributes to the excellence in education we strive for.
Students shall use AI in ways that inspire them to pursue their passions, achieve their goals, and excel in a world shaped by continuous innovation and transformation.
Students shall use AI safely and ethically. This means:
Protecting privacy of self and others.
Choosing GenAI systems that are reliable, secure, and approved by the school.
Verifying and editing AI outcomes to ensure human oversight on any AI generated information.
Be aware of potential biases in AI and take steps to reduce them.
Follow all laws, regulations, and school policies when using GenAI.
Students shall use AI with respect for others. This means:
Avoid using AI to create or share inappropriate, offensive, or harmful content, including fake news, deep fakes, or any content that could be used to bully or harass others.
Respect others' work and give credit where it's due.
Avoid using AI to dehumanize, discriminate, mock, harm, or infringe on the rights of others.
Students shall not use AI to complete assignments, exams, or any academic tasks meant to be their own work unless communicated with teachers and properly cited in the agreed academic format.
Students shall not plagiarize or cheat through AI-generated content.
Students shall use AI in compliance with the School's rules on academic integrity.
Students shall disclose the use of AI tools and content on their assignments to their teachers.
The simple answer is No. While AI tools are extremely helpful, you cannot 100% trust the generated answers. Sometimes, if an AI tool fails to find an answer to your task, it might start generating fake links and resources.
Check this article "Can You Trust AI Search? New Study Reveals The Shocking Truth" published in March 2025.
Limitations of AI that you must consider:
Bias: AI tools can reflect unfair preferences or stereotypes.
What it means: Bias happens when AI gives more attention to certain ideas, groups, or perspectives over others.
Example: When generating images or videos, AI might show certain genders or races more often in specific roles, even if that’s not accurate or fair.
Hallucinations: AI can sometimes make things up.
What it means: An AI “hallucination” is when the tool gives you information that sounds real but is completely false or misleading.
Example: It might invent facts, fake quotes, or give wrong answers that seem believable.
Privacy & Security: AI tools can collect and store data you enter.
What it means: Anything you type into an AI system might be saved or shared, especially if the tool isn’t school-approved.
Example: Sharing personal information (like full names, addresses, or passwords) with AI tools can put your privacy at risk.
Have a question about AI usage in your class? Here, we try to answer some of the most FAQs. Have more? Let us know!
It depends on the following situation:
Your teacher specifically stated that you are NOT allowed to use AI.
In this situation, you are not allowed to use any AI tools to complete the given task. Using AI tools in this case would be a violation of the academic integrity policies and might result in disciplinary measures.
Your teacher clearly stated that you may use AI tools.
In this case, you can use any AI tool as instructed by your teacher. However, you must clearly disclose that AI was used and cite it appropriately. It's important to follow your teachers' instructions.
There was no information from your teacher about AI usage.
Ask your teacher. If you would like to utilize AI tools to complete your assignments, it's best to check with your teacher.
Not recommended, but yes, you can.
Our recommendation is to start with your own ideas, and then use AI to assist you in elaborating and building upon them. However, AI can be used for idea generation or inspiration, but your final work must be your own and reflect your understanding.
It depends on the assignment and on your teachers' instructions. In all cases, your teacher's approval is needed before using AI tools.
You cannot copy/paste AI generated content or answers for any task/project. That’s considered plagiarism, and you would be a violating ASB's academic integrity policies and might result in disciplinary measures.
You must review, edit, and properly cite any AI-generated content you use.
It means telling your teacher when and how you used AI in your work. This can be done in a note or a citation, depending on your teacher’s instructions.
Yes. Using AI to support writing mechanics like grammar and spelling is generally acceptable, unless your teacher says otherwise.
This also depends on your teachers' instructions. You can utilize AI in this case only if your teacher approves. Also, you must check the summary for accuracy (review the summary), and mention that AI was used.
Depending on the required task and on your teachers' specific instructions. Is your task to create a presentation? Then using AI tools to generate that presentation might not be acceptable.
Will you be using an AI tool to generate an image that you will be using within another project? That might be acceptable.
It all depends on your teachers' approval. If you are not sure, you can always check with your teacher!
That may be considered academic dishonesty, and you could face consequences according to the school’s integrity policy.
Your teacher will guide you on the expected citation format. A simple example might be:
“Content generated with ChatGPT by OpenAI, August 2025.”
Yes, AI can be a great tool for practice and revision. In fact, ChatGPT just released a "study mode" that allows you to utilize it as your instructor encouraging you to critically think.
Just make sure that:
You're not using it to cheat or bypass your own learning.
You're cross-checking the information generated by AI. At many points, AI might not give you the right/correct answer or logic. Make sure not to 100% trust what AI is giving you and to cross-check anything you generate with a more reliable source.
Yes, but check with your teacher. Translations may need to be verified, and you should disclose the use of AI.
AI does not always provide a correct information. Even if you are using it for a research paper, it might give you "madeup" resources. This limitation is called "AI Hallucinations" and it is very common (more than what we want!).
Accordingly, you must:
Never settle for the first response generated by AI. AI tools are conversational tools, not research-based ones. They provide you with what you might think the "ultimate response," but it's never usually the first one.
Have a conversation with the tool to reach the best possible result.
Read the answers provided by AI carefully and thoroughly.
Cross-check the information with the ones available on reliable online resources such as JSTORE, encyclopedias, well-know research resources.
At the end, always make sure to edit and update the generated AI response.
Report any AI Hallucination incident to our IT department by filling out this form.
No. Only use tools that are approved by the school and safe to use. Why? Because as a school, we prioritize your safety and security, and we would like to ensure that you are using only the best possible tools available.
Additionally, many tools have a minimum age requirement, which is our responsibility to abide by.
Check this page to identify whether the AI tool you would like to use is approved or not.
If you're still unsure, ask your teacher or Ms. Hiba on hokar@asb.bh.
