In my social studies class we had a project based on Sustainable Tourism. We were learning about Globalization and how people live together in a sustainable community. We had to create a plan to build an Eco-friendly tourism business like a zoo, a hotel, etc. We built a model using recyclable objects to create a model showing our idea of a sustainable hotel.
We where trying to address sustainability and pollution problems in Paraguay by creating a hotel that would reduce their energy use, their plastic and water waste and try to change people's lives and thinking by inspiring them to change some small habits to be more green. If our hotel was to be successful, we could also inspire other hotels to become sustainable and start Paraguay's journey to become a sustainable country.
We used recycled products from our STEAM classroom. We used pieces of cardboard and hot glued them together to create the base of the hotel and the actual hotel itself. We used some plastic toy that looked like solar panels and placed them on the ceiling of the hotel, we created a river and garden using scrapes of green chalk for the grass and marker to draw the water. We used actual plants and rocks on top of the chalk as decoration.
Our prototype is simply a model to look at our idea and see how it would basically look and function. We found ways to use recyclable products to make our model sustainable as well like plastic, cardboards etc. We chose this method because if we were implying an eco-friendly hotel and made it out of plastic it just would not make sense.
Our project is very important, in my opinion it is a good idea and can be implied into real life. We can not only have a functioning hotel without doing too much damage to planet earth, but we can also inspire people and other countries. We created our idea based on real life ideas of sustainable hotels that exist in real life and we could become a hotel that inspires people and other entrepenuers.
For a bigger step, we could make it higher and add more floors. Our building just showed how one floor would look on the outside, a bigger step would be making a model of the inside or of the rooms and add more floors to the building.
We got out information off of sources on google and took ideas from actual eco-friendly hotels. We got the idea of the model off of any hotels we have been to and thought were beautiful.
Your hotel design is interesting and the construction of it using recycled materials is perfect. I also found your explanations to be well-written and clear. I think that this project could be extended in many ways to use more technologies or techniques. Congratulations!
