During S1 pupils work on rotation in Home Economics (HE) enabling them to learn about food, nutrition, food safety as well as textiles and the importance of these skills throughout their life, either at home or work.
In food lessons, pupils prepare a variety of dishes which develop their cookery skills and techniques through using different pieces of equipment and cookery processes. This is linked to theory (written) work which covers food and kitchen safety, nutrition and an introduction to the Scottish Dietary goals
In textiles pupils make a felt pencil case which develop skills in basic hand sewing and sewing on a button. They will also be introduced to using a sewing machine.
All pupils in S1 will participate in two periods of quality core Physical Education per week, designed to foster their personal health and fitness, develop movement skills and competencies, use the skills of evaluating and appreciating and have the ability to communicate and cooperate. Pupils will learn through a variety of activities, beginning with a Core Skills experience, and also including Fitness, Rugby, Social Dance, Badminton, Swimming, Basketball, Gymnastics and Athletics.
