Welcome to the Additional Support for Learning department. Here you will find information about our department's role at Inverurie Academy and how we support pupils to achieve their potential.
The transition process from primary to secondary school begins in October. Our ASL team transition co-ordinator is in close contact with our primary colleagues with information sharing which includes multiple visits to cluster primary schools.
Primary staff confirm any/all known barriers to learning that the students in their class' experience. Our liaision team member meets all pupils and builds on that information, using their expertise to make pupils' move to Inverurie Academy as easy as possible. The gathered information is shared with all staff so they can plan lessons accordingly.
Staff at Inverurie Academy are experienced in working with students with a variety of needs in their classes.
Information about barriers to learning can be found in the link above. This information is shared with staff.
Pupils who experience barriers to learning which have a significant impact upon their ability to access mainstream classes have a 'pupil profile' created by a member of the ASL team. A pupil profile provides staff with detailed information about pupils, with strategies to help them best succeed in class.
We have different online resources bases for pupils and parents/carers.

Our Enhance Provision Centre (EPC) is located on the second floor of Inverurie Academy. We have around 60 pupils who access this facility across the timetable for support with the learning and literacy/numeracy support. We approach our work with nurture and positive relationships at its core which impacts everything we do.
The Additional Support for Learning department offers support for pupils outside of the classroom too.
Our Enhanced Provision Centre is open to pupils at break and lunch times who require a supported environment.
