This course is optional
The main aim of the Skills for Work Sport and Recreation option is to develop skills that enable progression towards employment in sport & leisure; such as becoming a sports coach, fitness instructor, personal trainer, outdoor activities instructor or a sports development officer.
The course consists of 4 units:
Assist with a component of activity sessions
Employment opportunities in the sport and recreation industry
Assist with fitness programming
Assist with daily centre duties
In previous years, pupils have led sports sessions at feeder primary schools; undertaken work experience in the community; planned and delivered personalised gym sessions to one another; and prepared for mock interviews with Aberdeen FC. For the next academic year, learning experiences will be similar but the specifics of these will be determined by the class itself to achieve the learning outcomes.
It is recommended that you have taken N4/5 PE or NPA Sport & Fitness. Nonetheless, an interest in sport and physical activity as well as a suitable work ethic is beneficial.
This course is also suitable for those looking to undertake a career or employment in sport and leisure. Pupils may also want to consider NPA Level 6 Exercise and Fitness Leadership in S6.
The aim of the course is for pupils to learn through the undertaking of leadership opportunities as much as possible; both within the PE department and in contributing to our community by going into feeder primary schools. There is little focus on your own performance development, although much of the leadership elements of the course will be practical.
This qualification is internally assessed by Banff Academy PE teachers.
