In S3 this course is studied by all
As in S1 and S2, in S3 Core PE, you will have the opportunity to experience a broad variety of sporting activities in your class. Having discovered and built on skills in S1 & S2, you will further explore and build on these through some of the same activities, whilst others may be new to you. You will have 1 x 100 minute session per week and each block will consist of 1 term.
The S3 Core PE programme will entail both indoor and outdoor activities such as Tennis, Cycling, Basketball, Gym-Based Fitness, Table Tennis, Scottish Country Dance, Aesthetics (Gymnastics/Dance/Parkour/Cheerleading), Badminton, Volleyball, Rugby, Swimming, Lacrosse, Athletics, and Softball.
Pupils must be prepared to go outside for PE during the term between Easter and Summer and the term from Summer to October. Appropriate clothing should be taken to cope with all types of weather.
Core PE continues in S4 where you continue to engage in 200 minutes per week, though in a different format.
S3 Core PE is about participation and involvement in a range of activities, whilst developing your physical ability and exploring the SLP Skills your have built a grounding of in S1 and S2. The intention is to offer you options which will allow the further your knowledge and awareness of these activities and promote enjoyment in physical activity.
Core PE is a consistent opportunity to develop skills for work, learning and life: organisation, cooperation and teamwork, leadership, perseverance, respects and tolerance.
There are no assessments in S3 Core PE. Participation and work ethic is monitored throughout.
There is no written homework attached to this course, however pupils must ensure they are prepared for class with a full change of PE kit, water for hydration and a jacket etc. for outdoors. When swimming, pupils should bring a swimming costume/trunks and a towel - feel free to also bring goggles, t-shirt etc. (whatever you are comfortable wearing).
