The S3 Dance course will allow you to develop your dance technique in a variety of styles, develop your skills through taking part in routines, learn about the choreographic process and create your own choreography. Throughout the course we aim to have fun whilst keeping fit and active. If you enjoy dancing, this is the course for you!
In S4 you will study a one-year course leading to an SQA qualification in National 5 Dance.
Unit 1: Dance Styles – We will look at the dance styles hip hop, jazz and contemporary. Learning style specific steps and choreography.
Unit 2: Group Dance Skills – We will decide on a dance style and learn a full routine as a class.
Unit 3: Choreographic Study – We will study a piece of professional chorography. Specifically looking at the elements that make up choreography such as: theme, choreographic devices, structure, use of space, use of music, theatre arts, etc. You will then produce a written piece of work studying your own chosen piece of choreography.
Unit 4: Choreography – You will apply the choreographic knowledge gained from unit 3 and create your own duet. You will teach this to a pair within the class.
Practical and written assessments carried out at the end of each unit.
Practical assessments include:
Taking part in technique classes.
Learning and performing group choreography.
Creating a piece of choreography (duet) that will be presented by members of the class.
Written assessments include:
A portfolio of evidence containing coursework completed throughout the course, during each unit.
Your choreographic study.
Some independent working at home required for your choreographic study and your choreography for your duet.
