In S4 this course is optional
The National 4/5 Physical Education Course draws on and progresses from experiences in S1-3 PE, as well as your own experiences in physical activity and sport. Learners are provided with the opportunity to develop their performance level in a handful of physical activities such as badminton, football, basketball to name a few options.
Through these activities, you will:
- Investigate Physical, Mental, Emotional and Social factors that impact on an athlete's performance.
- Gather data to identify an athlete's strengths and weaknesses.
- Create and implement a training programme to develop your performance.
- Monitor the effectiveness of this training programme.
You will work both independently and co-operatively to develop your performance though these training programmes, whilst reporting on your knowledge in a written portfolio. This written portfolio, as well as two practical performances in two different activities forms your final grade.
Successful completion of National 5 Physical Education will allow progression to Higher Physical Education in S5/6.
The Course will enable learners to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required to perform effectively as an athlete, as well as enhancing their physical wellbeing. The Course will encourage learners to make informed decisions about their physical wellbeing and to experience the positive aspects of physical activity and sports such as challenge and enjoyment.
