Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS) gives you the opportunity to learn more about different religions and their beliefs.
The RMPS course has three core units:
World Religion: Learners develop techniques to comment on and understand some key texts or sources relevant to the world religion selected for study. The selected religion is Islam. The Unit will develop knowledge of some of the religion’s beliefs, values, practices and traditions and its place in modern society.
Morality and Belief: Learners develop analytic techniques to enquire into, and present views about religious and non-religious responses to a moral issue. The selected Moral Issue is Religion and Justice. They will develop KU of a contemporary moral issue. Religious and non-religious viewpoints are explored.
Religious and Philosophical Questions: Learners develop techniques to describe and explain a significant religious and philosophical response to The Problem of Evil & Suffering from a religious perspective and from other perspectives such as science or philosophy.
Success in Higher RMPS can lead to other Humanities Highers or Criminology, but also acts as enty to many University courses in Humanities.
A wide range of learning and teaching approaches will be employed in order to actively engage pupils in the lessons. Pupils will be encouraged to discuss and share ideas and opinions with a view to helping them to think independently and make informed judgements. Pupils will demonstrate their knowledge and understanding through building a portfolio through group work, power-points, mind maps and mini-essays amongst many others. Resources will be varied and include booklets, power points, the Internet. There will also be opportunities to link with the wider community through inviting visitors into the class
Students must pass all of units, as well as the assignment. In addition, students will sit an external exam, which will be graded A-D.

Component 1 – Paper 1 (World Religion & Morality & Belief) 60 marks, Paper 2 (Religious & Philosophical Question) 20 marks
