NPA Journalism is a course in which you will study many things required for the world of journalism. You will learn about research and interview skills, writing for different news formats and learning the key features of page layout and page design for print media.
This is a good course for those who have already achieved a National 5 qualification in English as an alternative to Higher English, or for someone who wants to do another English-based subject after achieving a qualification in Higher English.
The course is ideal for anyone interested in working in journalism. Even if you are not, it will help you develop vital skills in communication, teamwork, problem solving and digital fluency – core SLP skills that most employers will be looking for!
The course consists of four units that you will be working on throughout the year. There is no end-of-year exam, instead you will be assessed on various outcomes during the work you accomplish within each unit.
The four units consist of two mandatory units (Research and Interview Skills for Journalism, Feature Writing) and two others from a choice of four – News Writing for Print, Page Layout and Page Design for Print, Basic Website Development, Photography.
