This course combines a wide range of creative elements of the Graphic Communication and Creative Thinking curriculum. It will develop many of your School Leaver Profile skills but in particular: Creativity; Communication, Problem Solving and Digital Fluency and Citizenship.
It also equips you with other skills that are valued by many employers, such as presentation; research skills; visual and spatial awareness; sketching and computer-aided design (CAD) skills and self-evaluation.
It is useful for anyone, however will be of great benefit to those considering further study or a career in any of the creative or design-based disciplines such as product design, architecture, advertising, digital arts or engineering.
This course can lead to SQA National 4/5 Graphic Communication in S4 which can lead on to Higher in S5 and Advanced Higher in S6 Level 5/6 Creative Thinking.
You will develop a broad range of skills which will help you to develop creative ideas to solutions and communicate them through a variety of technical and illustrative graphics. Students will focus on developing freehand sketching and technical graphic skills, learning how to accentuate these through the use of colour. Programmes used for DTP and CAD will also be covered to allow students to develop their ideas and show case them professionally. Projects will take student through the design cycle, learning how to properly undertake and utilise research before employing a number of practices to facilitate iterative and creative designs.
You will be assessed on a continual basis across all aspects of the course. You will keep an evidence folio which will include sketchbook work, digital media and class tests.
It is expected that you will undertake regular sketchbook work to practice your manual sketching skills or develop your designs further.
