The structure of the course reflects the use of graphics in business and industry, in content and methodology, while embracing the changes brought about by the continuing advances in technology.
The content will be delivered in 2 units:
2D Graphics
3D & Pictorial Graphics
Emphasis will be placed on 3D CAD Modelling and Desktop Publishing with some manual drawings to aid these techniques. This will incorporate the product design process from concept through to marketing.
It is hoped that pupils will consider this course which should prove in valuable in many careers from architecture to graphic art.
Advanced Higher is not currently offered at Banff Academy. The skills developed throughout the course will be of benefit for Design and Manufacture folios.
The integrated approach in the learning and teaching of this course supports the development of transferable skills and provides a rich experience in Graphic Communication.
Each unit is assessed internally by a number of Tasks using skills learned from National 5 Graphic Communication and what will be taught in class. These will be assessed according to SQA guidelines. These will only be graded Pass/Fail.
Assignment 30% - An eight hour folio, undertaken in exam conditions but in class time. Students are presented with a series of previously unseen tasks that they have to produce a graphical response to. This is externally marked.
Question Paper 70% - A two and a half hour written exam which tests the students graphical theory and knowledge which has been delivered via the students theory periods over the course of the year.
