33 E. Washington - SAIC Galleries & Grad Studios

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is constructing 61,840 square feet of art gallery, graduate studio and supporting office space at 33 E. Washington Street. The redevelopment cost to the building owner is $15 million. Our flagship operation will reside on four-levels and is slated to open August of 2020. The gallery will showcase the artwork of students, faculty, and visiting artists, while the art studios will provide work space for graduate students enrolled in the School. Gallery and studio operations currently located at the Sullivan Center, 36 S. Wabash, will be relocated to this facility. 64,673 square feet of SAIC space will remain in the Sullivan Center. This move will result in $6.8 million in total savings for SAIC over the duration of the 12-year lease.
