COVID-19 Protocols for School Year 2021 - 2022

Overview | Introduction

Armbrae’s school reopening planning is informed by recent evidence and by observing the experiences of Public Health and Education sectors in jurisdictions in Canada around the world.

As such, the plan will evolve and we will continually update the information that we share with you in this space.

Our reopening plans will differ slightly from plan that was developed for 2020-21 (see sidebar), but many of last year's protocols will remain in place until Nova Scotia moves into Phase 5 of the province's reopening plan.

Update from Two Weeks Ahead (TWA) - August 25th, 2021 Edition

COVID-19 Re-opening Plans: August 31st - Phase 5

Armbrae’s re-opening plans assume that all eligible members of our community will be fully vaccinated prior to the opening of school. Since we are in still in Phase 4 of the Province’s re-opening timeline, we will reopen with many of our trusted protocols in place. These will be revisited once we receive new information from Public Health.

  • Masking: All teachers and students will continue to wear masks unless they are eating, drinking, in physical education classes, or outside.

  • Cleaning: Enhanced cleaning measures will continue to be in place

  • Daily Pre-screening + Illness: We will not require students to use QR codes at home to perform the daily COVID check-in prior to coming to school. Instead, students will consult the public health COVID-19 daily check-in, stay home if they have symptoms or when feeling unwell, and get tested for COVID-19 when necessary.

  • Dropoff and Pickup Procedures: These will remain the same as last year, and details were provided in the August 11th TWA.

  • Visitors: Other than essential visits by emergency or maintenance personnel or contractors, Armbrae will continue the practice of not allowing visitors into the school. Parents can make requests to meet with teachers virtually as usual.

  • Resource: On Monday, the province released the updated P-12 Education Sector plan “Back to School: Living With Covid-19”. The revised plan (see link) will be the guidance document that all schools in Nova Scotia are following as we prepare to reopen for the 2021-22 school year.
