The Next-Generation MCAS updated the 20 year old MCAS and was first given in the spring of 2017 to grades 3 - 8. This assessment focuses on students' critical thinking abilities, application of knowledge and ability to make connections between reading and writing. Students take the MCAS every year from grades 3 - 8 in English language arts and mathematics.
