2-6 members per team with only 4 team members allowed on pool deck during the ROV demonstration part of the competition.

The 2023 SCOUT Competition Manual outlines the guidelines and the tasks for this year's competition.
Each team comprised of 2-6 students will participate in
ROV Demonstration of Tasks 1-3
Best of two 12 minute trials
Engineering Presentation
Marketing Display
Volunteer Information
All types of volunteers needed. This is a fun, educational event for our participants.
10 AM - 3 PM, breaks and snacks provided.
Training at the event with online content available prior to event.

MATE requires background screening and will perform that for you. If you have already undergone background screening (i.e. - AZ fingerprint card, AmeriCorps or 4-H screening please state so on the registration form. This will eliminate the need for another screening.)
Jobs Available
Check-in 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Team & Volunteer Check-in (Direct people to various locations and assist with marketing display setup)
Safety Inspector (Perform Safety Inspection of ROVs according to scoresheet and video)
Pool Judges 10:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Training poolside 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM. Also watch prop demonstration video .
The pool is 4 feet deep. Breaks will be given as needed. There will be 4 ROV stations and judges work in teams of 2; one on deck and one in the water. You can trade off as needed.
On Deck Judge 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Set up props poolside, fill out scoresheets, keep time, and direct teams)
In Water Judge 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM (Set up props underwater, check performance of task in water and relay score to on deck judge)
Marketing Display Judges 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM (or when complete)
Teams will provide a physical stand-alone marketing displays to promote their ROV company.
Evaluate up to 22 marketing displays according to rubric. (Note: some teams decide not to provide a display)
Each display will be evaluated by 3 judges.
Engineering Presentation Judges 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Teams are assigned a time communicate to judges about the development and testing of their ROVs:
Showing their critical thinking, creativity, and engineering reasoning
Demonstrating their individual and collaborative contributions
Presentations are 15 minutes: 10 minutes of presenting and 5 minutes Q&A from judges.
There will be 2 judges per presentation
Teams are given scheduled times, and there is 5 minutes provided between each scheduled time to complete engineering scoresheet.
General Support 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Help out wherever needed. Provide breaks for other judges: pool and engineering.
Organize and provide snacks/water to judges.
Encourage participants, coaches and parents to complete survey
Runner 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Assist official scorekeeper by collecting and delivering scoresheets from judges to scorekeeper.
Provide any necessary paperwork to judges.
