Erasmus Days 2026 at IIS Archimede
On Friday, 16 October, our school celebrated Erasmus Days by taking part in the online event “Students and Teachers on Erasmus Microphone”, which brought together the six partner schools involved in the Erasmus+ DIVERSE partnership project.
Teachers and students presented the activities carried out as part of the project, sharing photos, experiences and reflections on a journey of cooperation and growth that began two years ago and is now in its third year.
Our school contributed to the event with a video featuring the experiences and impressions of the 30 students who have taken part in mobilities in Portugal, Türkiye, Romania and Italy and who are now preparing to set off for the next destinations: France and Croatia! ✈️
An important opportunity to share experiences and feel part of a community without borders.

Christmas Solidarity
On the occasion of the School Assembly held on Monday, 22 December 2025, the last day of school before the Christmas holidays, the student representatives organised games and musical entertainment and also decided to launch a charity challenge among their fellow students.
They involved the classes at Archimede in a collection of clothes, food and, above all, toys to be donated to less fortunate children staying at Casa Don Puglisi in Modica and attending the “Crisci ranni” association.
Many students took part in the initiative, showing how young people can often surprise us with their sensitivity towards those who are more vulnerable.
The donations were personally delivered on the afternoon of Tuesday, 23 December, by four students representing the school, accompanied by a teacher. At the “Crisci ranni” centre, they were welcomed by volunteers who spend every afternoon with a group of children from immigrant families, helping them with their homework in a peaceful and joyful environment.
It was truly moving to see the children’s smiles. After introducing themselves, they played games and had a snack with our students, and finally unwrapped the toys they had received, with a mixture of curiosity and joy on their faces.
A big thank you goes to our students who, once again, have surprised us with their sensitivity, showing that even in a world dominated by consumerism and a throwaway culture, the values of solidarity and sharing are still alive.

An inclusive & Green Christmas tree
At Christmas, our special need students participated in a hands-on and enjoyable activity: making Christmas balls from recycled clothes. Old fabrics were transformed into beautiful decorative balls. They enjoyed working together, creating balls with the help of special need teachers and assistants. Once the work was finished, they placed the balls on the Christmas tree, placed in the school’s entrance hall, so everybody could see them. The students were very proud of their creations.
Inclusive Stone Art
Another amazing activity combining inclusion and sustainability: the stone workshop. Using seaside stones collected from our beaches and rocky coasts, our students painted and decorated them as they wished, turning them into small pieces of art. The decorated stones were then attached to small wooden panels to create cozy pictures that could be hung on the walls to decorate their school lab or taken home to brighten their bedrooms.
The workshop involved special need students together their classmates, as true inclusion requires broad participation.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed worldwide on December 3rd. Istituto Archimede also celebrated it by organizing a drawing workshop that involved both students with disabilities and their classmates. They worked together, side by side, drawing and coloring beautiful portraits of female figures whose hair was replaced by flowers, leaves, and butterflies. The figures are a tribute to femininity, kindness, nature, and diversity.
The stylized drawings were displayed on the walls of the hall and corridors as part of a school exhibition.
Europe Day 2025 at Archimede
On Thursday, 5 June 2025, Istituto di Istruzione Superiore “Archimede” in Modica celebrated Europe Day with a debate entitled “Human Rights in Europe”, aimed at promoting European values and citizenship among young people.
The event was attended by the Headteacher, Rosolino Balistrieri, the Mayor of Modica, Maria Monisteri, and representatives of Europe Direct, INDIRE, Casa d’Europa “Altiero Spinelli” and ItaliaCamp. A video message from MEP Caterina Chinnici highlighted the importance of freedom, democracy and peace in the European project.
The event also celebrated the school’s commitment to European initiatives through its Erasmus+ accreditation and its recognition as a European Parliament Ambassador School (EPAS). Future activities, including participation in the Euroscola programme in Strasbourg, were also presented.
Students were at the heart of the event, sharing their experiences of Erasmus+ mobility projects and other European initiatives. Through their stories, they highlighted how international experiences have contributed to their personal and cultural growth and strengthened their sense of European citizenship.
Europe Day 2026 in Rome
On the occasion of Europe Day, a group of students from Istituto Archimede in Modica, accompanied by the Headteacher and their teachers, spent two unforgettable days in Rome. On 8 May 2026, they took part in the “Luci d’Europa” event in Piazza del Campidoglio and, the following day, visited the multimedia centre Europa Experience – David Sassoli.

Erasmus Days 2025 at Archimede
On 17 October 2025, Istituto Archimede celebrated Erasmus Days with an online dissemination event aimed at sharing the results of the school’s Erasmus+ projects.
Teachers and students who had taken part in the 2024–25 mobilities presented their experiences abroad, sharing activities, discoveries and cultural, human and linguistic aspects of their time in other European countries through photos and presentations.
The event, attended by classes from across the school, also provided an opportunity to present the Erasmus+ mobility opportunities planned for the 2025–26 school year and encourage students to take part in future international experiences.

EPAS School
In the 2024/25 school year, Istituto Archimede joined the network of European Parliament Ambassador Schools (EPAS). The EPAS programme, promoted by the European Parliament to foster informed citizenship, aims to bring upper secondary school students closer to Europe and the European Parliament by helping them understand how it works and providing opportunities for reflection and debate on the values that underpin and guide the European Union.
The programme continues through annual participation in training sessions, the maintenance of a digital information point on the European Union, and the organisation of activities and initiatives on European topics, using educational materials provided by the European Parliament.

EUROSCOLA 2026
An extraordinary experience for the students of Istituto Archimede in Modica, who became “Members of the European Parliament for a day” at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, together with young people from all over Europe.
On 6 February 2026, a delegation of 13 students from the SIA and RIM programmes, accompanied by teachers Graziella Corallo and Emanuele Guerrieri Ciaceri, took part in the EUROSCOLA parliamentary session. In the European Parliament’s Hemicycle, the students discussed, negotiated and voted on current issues, with a particular focus on tackling poverty and social exclusion.
For the students, the experience represented a stimulating double challenge: engaging with complex and topical issues entirely in English, while confidently and effectively interacting with hundreds of other young people from across Europe.
