Our Inquiry focus around storytelling continues this term. Your child may come home and ask about the origins of their name. This will no doubt create some interesting discussion at home! We look forward to hearing more about this.

TOMORROW - FRIDAY 30 JULY

We have a Red Nose Mufti Day (wear red if you can!). Please bring a gold coin donation. All proceeds go to Cure Kids.

UPCOMING TRIP - WEEK 3 - TUESDAY 10 AUGUST

On Tuesday 10 August Kaunuku 3 and 4 will be travelling by bus to the Christchurch Art Gallery, Botanic Gardens: New Zealand Gardens and the Canterbury Museum. We will need parent helpers for this day. It will be a full day (ie. departing just after 9, and returning back to school just before 3). Please pop in or email us to let us know if you can help. Thanks!

End of Term Notices

And just like that, Term 2 is over- it has been a busy term so the children will be looking forward to a restful holiday.

Firstly, thankyou for sending along food today for our shared Matariki kai. This was a lovely way to finish off our Matariki learning and the term.

This week was our last week of matariki learning. Our Action Stations (play based learning), Maths, writing and reading has all been focussed on Matariki and the associated themes and the Matariki stars. The children have filled their kete of knowledge about matariki and have really enjoyed it.

This week we made traditional kites (manu tukutuku). This was a challenging task but we got there in the end! Check out the blog for the photos. We will finish these tomorrow

Ararira Springs Fairy Door Hunt

Today the children will be bringing their fairy doors home. One child (from the pair/group) will have the door for these upcoming July holidays and Term 3, should they wish to. The door will then get handed over to the other person at the end of Term 3 for the start of the September holidays.

The idea is to have a Lincoln Community Fairy Door Hunt for the July and September holidays- a cheap and easy holiday activity, similar to the ‘Lockdown Bear Hunt’. Please display the fairy door in a front street facing window so it can be seen from the street for the duration of the school holidays. These fairy doors must be inside as they are not waterproof.

We will put a community notice up on the school facebook page and the Lincoln Community page letting parents and the community know they are out there…... somewhere. If you do not have a street facing window (back section, rural etc) please organise a local business, friend or family member to display it for the holidays for you.

After the holidays look after the fairy door at home (doesn’t need to be displayed) and later in Term 3 it will need to be returned to school so the other child can display it at their house for a fairy door hunt for the September holidays.

Please keep checking our class blog to see what we are up to. There are regular posts being made about our class learning. During the holiday try some of the family favourites recipes on the blog and get the kids in the kitchen!

Looking forward to next week…….

There are still a few people to make a booking. Can you please do so as soon as possible before these close. Learning Conferences are on 23-24 June and we are finishing earlier on these days.

Next Wednesday is Gumboot day. Children may wear gumboots on this day in support of others (and themselves) who show resilience. All children at Lincoln schools are encouraged to wear them. You may like to talk to your child about how you show resilience.

Week 6 Notices

What an exciting start to the week- hopefully everyone has dried out! The children loved watching the rain on Monday but it was obvious when we took them over to the hall in the afternoon for P.E, that they needed to run about.

This week we started multiplication and division. If the opportunity arises at home to skip count in 2’s, 5’s or 10’s in a real life context, this will allow some extra practice time.

We have noticed with the cooler days that many of the children are asking to eat quite early in the day. Unfortunately this sometimes leads to very little food being eaten at lunchtime. If you could check in with your child about either a bigger breakfast, a different breakfast or more food in the lunchbox that would be great.

Next week Melissa from the University of Canterbury starts her teaching practise in our class. She is initially only with us for 2 weeks and then will return for 4 weeks later in the year.

Looking forward to next week…….
