Biography

Karl-Philippe Tremblay

Married and father of 5 wonderful children, Karl-Philippe has a teaching diploma and a master degree in Mathematic education (UQAM). He has teaching experience in high school and adult education. He is also a lecturer at Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) and has reviewed and written several learning and exercices books in mathematics (SOFAD). Karl-Philippe shows a wide interest in education in all of its forms and has studied alternative ways of learning while acquiring his master degree.

After a short stay in an alternative school, his oldest daughter is now homeschooled. Karl-Philippe really enjoys working with his daughter on genuine learning experiences, in which she has to establish issues, take decisions and offer feedback on her experiences.

I participated in the evaluation service offer last year by AQED.

Description of the evaluation process

The evaluation is performed during an interview* (in person or videoconference) with the parent(s) and child (and anyone else of relevance). The child is encourage to participate as much as possible during the interview. During the interview, parent(s) and child briefly explain their homeschooling settings. Then, parent(s) and child present for each learning area an overview of the different activities they did and how it offered a learning opportunity. The goal is to establish if the child is progressing in every learning area. The progression has for reference point your learning project (beginning of the year) and your mid-term progress report. The evaluation does not compare your child to an external scale.

Following the interview, you will receive an evaluation report in which I provide my qualitative assessment of your child’s learning progression for each learning area.

What parents must provide

  • Learning project of the current year

  • Mid-term progress report

For each learning area:

  • Traces of the learning activities (can be in writing, images, orals, etc.)*

*If the interview is taking place over the internet, the evaluator must have access to the learning traces. An internet space will therefore be provided in order to share them with the evaluator, prior to the interview.
