APS Base Camp

BASE Camp will be held at Washington-Liberty High School

1301 N Stafford Street, Arlington, VA 22201 

Our Building And Supporting Educators (BASE) Camp is an opportunity for new licensed staff to: Network with new colleagues, explore content and curriculum, learn about APS’s diverse students, and use APS instructional technology. 

BASE Camp is designed for T-scale employees hired between January 2026 and August 5th, 2026, with a firmly set RSVP deadline of 5:00 PM on August 5th to ensure sufficient preparation.   Attendance is strongly encouraged, though it is not part of the teaching contract. Participants will be paid a predetermined hourly rate for their BASE Camp attendance. This rate may differ from their own hourly rate. Payment can be expected up to 90 days following the event.

Because T-Scale employees hired before January 2026 have already gained much of the content through their work in schools, they are not eligible to attend BASE Camp. T-Scale employees who worked at any point between January and June 2026 may find some of the information familiar. However, they are still welcome to attend for a formal introduction to APS.

Staff hired after August 5th should not attend BASE Camp. Participants must be cleared to work and have access to email, devices, Synergy, Canvas, and other important information. Staff hired after this time often do not have this access, which creates a frustrating and inequitable experience for new staff. This timeline allows for systems to be activated and for participants to attend fully. Access to BASE Camp materials will be available to all new T-Scale staff throughout the year.  Staff can self-enroll in the course once APS email access is available with this URL: https://apsva.instructure.com/enroll/XTATB9

Attendance is highly encouraged. Attendees are required to have fingerprint checks and background checks cleared by Human Resources beforehand. *

Please note: This orientation is separate from the On-boarding process done by Human Resources. New T-scale employees that attend will receive payment for their attendance. This orientation will include required sessions that might vary dependent on your position. A complete schedule of sessions will be emailed out to all RSVPs once they are finalized. In order to participate in BASE Camp and to receive your computer device, all paperwork MUST be turned in to Human Resources, your onboarding appointment must be complete, and you must be cleared. Please be sure to return all paperwork so that you have access to your device and all of the APS platforms throughout the orientation.
