Schedule
Our Sixth Grade Academy is divided among three teams. With the exception of busses and clubs, sixth-graders are separated from our "upperclassmen" on the PVM campus. We have found that this helps to alleviate some of the anxiety associated with being the "new kids" at school.
Our school day is divided among five blocks. Beginning in the 2025-6 school year, thirty minutes of foreign language instruction will be incorporated into the daily schedule. Students go to their four core subject classes (ELA, math, science, and social studies) every day, and alternate between PE and enrichment classes on A days and B days.
Grades
Grades for each class are achieved by averaging nine major grades per quarter (all quiz grades are averaged together to make one major grade, and all homework grades are averaged to make a second major grade). Please note - there is no spelling grade in middle school.
Homework
There is more homework assigned in middle school than there is in primary school. There are weekly homework assignments in several core classes, in addition to a monthly ELA reading assignment. Additional homework will also be assigned for material not finished in class.
Remediation
We have a STAR (Student-Teacher Academic Remediation) program at Prairieville Middle school. When a student needs extra time to master a concept, teachers will sometimes pull that student for one-on-one work during their normal elective time on Fridays. Students will be excused from any work that they miss in elective class due to STAR time. Students may also be pulled because they have mastered a concept and a teacher feels that they would benefit from additional enrichment past the normally-taught material. If students still need extra help throughout the year, our administrators, teacher coaches, and librarian also pull remediation groups for extra one-on-one time to ensure that all students have the chance to succeed in their classes.
Quality Points
In order to pass a class for the year, a student must have four quality points for that class, with at least two of those quality points in the last semester. Quality points are awarded as follows:
A = 4
B = 3
C = 2
D = 1
F = 0
