About me

Hello! I am Brenna Valencia, your student's teacher for Holocaust & Human Behavior, U.S. History, or Sociology this year. This is my sixth year teaching at Cibola High School. This year, I am joined in my classroom by a Resident Teacher from the University of New Mexico, Ms. Presley Knowlton, who will also be teaching your student!

I am excited to be back and to see how this year goes. Seeing the students back in school and engaging in collaborative, cooperative learning will be wonderful! Holocaust & Human Behavior class overview:

Holocaust & Human Behavior is a year-long course designed to examine one of history's most significant and tragic events through multiple lenses: historical, sociological, ethical, and personal. This course facilitates students' examination of racism, prejudice, and antisemitism to help develop a more humane and informed citizenry. By studying the Holocaust and other examples of genocide, students make essential connections between history and the moral choices and issues they may face in their lives.

U.S. History class overview:

The historical context of this course focuses on the following: political, economic, and social events and issues related to industrialization and urbanization, major wars, domestic and foreign policies, and reform movements, including civil rights. Students will examine the impact of geographic factors on major events and eras and analyze their causes and effects. Finally, students will use various primary and secondary sources to understand and interpret the past, including multiple points of view and historical context.

Sociology class overview:

This course was created to introduce you to the discipline of sociology. The intention is to provide you with opportunities to learn the basic concepts and perspectives that sociologists use in their work. More specifically, we will examine the nature of human society, social behavior, and the roles of groups, organizations, institutions, and cultures.
