Ms. Way's Classroom

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Welcome (back) to the Visual Impairment Program at Jefferson Middle School. The VI room is the portable J3, which is on Lomas, right next to the Bus Lane.

As well as helping your child to make progress towards their IEP goals, I aim to encourage and facilitate their full participation in all the activities that go on at Jefferson. I approach every activity as a learning opportunity, and hope that you share this view. I liaise closely with the children’s subject teachers, supplying modified materials where needed, and assign Educational Assistants to support students in class when appropriate. The overall aim for my students is to help them become independent learners who are able to advocate for themselves.

I am required to have a full eye examination report on file for each student, so if you have a recent report, please send a copy into school with your child. If your child has not had an eye examination within the last year I would greatly appreciate it if you could schedule an appointment.

I know that many class teachers request that you send classroom supplies with your child to help defray the cost, and I don’t want to add to that demand, but if you are able to contribute any items at any time throughout the year, that would be appreciated. We regularly use tissues, hand soap and sanitizer. In addition, your child may need earbuds for their VI Study Skills class.

If at any time you have questions, concerns or comments, please contact me; my details are as follows:

Email: frances.way@aps.edu

Tel: (505) 255-8691 ext. 20563 (J3)

Cell: (505) 300-9261

If I am unable to answer your call, please leave a message on the J3 number or a text message on my cell and I will respond as soon as I am able.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to working with you and your child this year – GO JETS!!

Sincerely,

Frances Way
