Our next read aloud is "Weasel" by Cynthia DeFelice. This book is about a brother and sister who are home alone waiting for their father to return from a hunting trip. They are visited by a stranger in the middle of the night who cannot speak. They decided to follow a him hoping he will lead them to their missing father. The story takes place in Ohio in 1838.
We will finish the year with reviewing reading strategies in both fiction and non-fiction reading passages. We will also finish our last Literature Circle by creating a project based on the book to present to the class.
We are currently learning addition and subtraction with fractions.
We will finish the year with the Human Growth and Development Unit and a science fair project.

Student self-discipline is critical in learning environments. I do expect students to follow school and classroom rules. I do not put up with bullying, disrespectful behavior of any kind, or frequent off-task behaviors such as chronic talking. These behaviors are very disruptive and take time away from teaching and student learning. Students need to take responsibility for their actions and consequences will be given when rules are broken. If you ever have questions or concerns about a situation please contact me.
A small amount of math and/or reading homework is typically assigned nightly. I encourage students to complete work in class as time permits. If you are not sure if your child has completed homework in class, please check the homework section or their agenda. Your child should have brought their assignments home to show you. I completely understand that things happen from time to time and homework does not get completed or is left at home. Please send me a note in the agenda, text or an email, and I will allow the homework to be turned in the next day. Homework is major student responsibility. It is NOT optional.
