One of your weekly assignments this year will involve creating an interactive map of world events. You will listen to episodes of NPR's World Story of the Day Podcast and will use Google MyMaps to keep track of your information and analysis. You will be expected to examine each story using the 5 Key Themes of Geography (see below for my How-To video and info on the 5 themes).

TITLE - You have the ability to give a Title to each pin you place. Please make your title the SAME as the title of the podcast episode you are working with.

LOCATION - The pin should be placed as close to the geographic focus of the story as possible. If the story moves around a particular country or region, you should place your pin in the RELATIVE location of most importance.

IMAGES - Please add AT LEAST 3 photos to your pin. These images can be added directly from the pin using Google Image Search (not great), YouTube (if you want to add videos), or by using a URL (maybe the best option). My video tutorial will show you how to do this.

PLACE - What HUMAN and/or PHYSICAL characteristics are important to this story. What role does HISTORY, CULTURE, or the LAND play in the story you are working with? Under the title you have the ability to add a lot of text. This information should be placed there. Feel free to Copy and Paste my TEMPLATE (see below) into this box.

This can be the broader global environment (Natural Disasters, Climate Change, Etc.) or the more localized environment of physical features on the land. Does the story relate to BORDERS? Is the BORDER based on a PHYSICAL feature (Mountains, Rivers, etc.)? Does the story relate to RESOURCES that are produced by the environment (Minerals, Agriculture, etc.)? If the story DOES NOT contain material relevant to this THEME, it can be skipped.

As we learn, this will become easier and this is a great section to ask questions about in class. Do your best, don't be racist, think about movies, books, TV, music, other classes, and other news stories you are aware of. Use YOUR lived experiences to complete this part of the assignment.
