What is the DCES STEAM Lab?

  • What an exciting time for our school to continue to build our STEAM program! Thank you to Dara Beckley for your vision and time setting up and maintaining the STEAM Lab for our school the past several years. Also, thank you to our amazing DCES PTA for your continued support.
  • Student learning and activities will be centered around project-based learning, where they will learn to problem-solve, collaborate, create, test ideas and build with their hands. You can think of the STEAM class in 3 parts:
    • Classroom: Students will receive instruction on the unit we will be covering to build background knowledge and vocabulary.
    • Laboratory: Students will engage in hands-on activities focused on topic we are studying.
    • Computer Lab: Students will spend time reflecting on what they learned during the unit and use technology to share and communicate about what they learned. This will also give them an opportunity to apply and practice computer skills they are learning in their classroom.

What tools and applications will students use?

Students will be using many different tools, manipulatives, technology and APPS to create and communicate learning.
