Welcome to 3rd Grade

I am a native of New Mexico and grew up in Albuquerque. I went to Cochiti Elementary, Garfield Middle School, Valley High School, and graduated from UNM (everyone’s a Lobo!!). My grandmother, mother, and sister were all teachers. I have two grown children who live in the Albuquerque area. My husband and I live in Placitas with our cats and the occasional bunny, bobcat, or coyote! My family is my support system. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading, and traveling. Interacting with children, watching them learn, and helping them to figure out new things are a few of the reasons why I love teaching. The amazing students, dedicated staff, and outstanding parent community makes Osuna a wonderful place to work.

Dear Families,

Thank you all for your support and help at home. It is hard to believe that January is behind us.

Science Fair will be February 14th, however, the science projects need to be completed and turned in by February 11th so the students can present their projects in class. It is required for all third grade students to have a science project. On February 13th, the science projects will be available for viewing for families to come see from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm.

The students have been working very hard on their multiplication facts. Over half of the class have said all of them! Thank you for practicing them at home. Several children have been helping fellow students during lunch and recess practice them too! The deadline is February 20th, when we will have our ice cream party.

Please keep reading with your child at night. I can not stress the importance of nightly reading. Several students have told me that they play video games or watch TV, but they don't read. The only way to improve reading is to read. All I require is 20 minutes and the students get a ROAR token for reading and having you sign in their agenda.

In math we are currently working on division. In language arts we are still focusing on key details and the main idea. The week of February 10th, we will be working on our President's Reports. Thank you for sending in the cereal boxes. A special thank you to Aiden Parra and his family as they donated 20 boxes for our class!

Parent Teacher Conferences will be March 12th and 13th (no school those days, so teachers can meet with parents). If your conference was on Monday in the fall, it will be on March 12th in the spring. If it was on Tuesday, it will be March 13th. If I met with you on a different day, I will work with you again for scheduling. Conference letters with dates and times will be sent home later in February. If you have a special request, please let me know.

Please check the dates below for upcoming events with our school.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me, Remind message me, or put a note in your child's folder.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Barnett
