How Albuquerque High Does Discipline
Here at AHS, we are committed to a school discipline model that embraces Restorative Justice to ensure the physical & emotional safety of our students, faculty, staff, and families.
In 2019, Albuquerque High proudly introduced the Student Success Center, a restorative alternative to in-school suspension.
In its first year, the Student Success Center helped reduce out-of-school suspensions from 207 to only 111, helped lower the total number of discipline referrals from 446 to 331 compared to the 2018/19 school year, and was essential in lowering behavior incidents overall by 47% at the end of the first semester alone.
From the local to national level, school disciplinary data show concerning trends that students of color are affected more severely as a result of outmoded & outdated punitive school behavior policies. The AHS Student Success Center is here to change that.
